In a post on social media, Maria Corina Machado, the opposition leader in Venezuela, commented on her being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, stressing that the award is a “recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans”, and called for unity to achieve the goal of “winning freedom.”

In her message, Machado emphasized that this international honor is not just about her personally, but about all the people of Venezuela, who, as she said, “have been fighting for years for freedom and democracy.”

This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is a boost to conclude our task: to conquer Freedom.

“This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is motivation for us to complete our mission: to win Freedom,” she wrote, expressing optimism that the country is “on the brink of victory.”

She also referred to Venezuela’s allies on the international stage, stressing that “more than ever” she places her hopes in “President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic countries of the world,” whom she described as “our main allies.”

Machado concluded her message by dedicating the prize “to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump, for his unwavering and decisive support of our cause.”

Her reaction upon learning she had won the Nobel

Machado said she was “in shock” when she found out she had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, according to a video sent to AFP by her press team.

“Oh my God… I have no words,” she added.
“I’m grateful on behalf of the people of Venezuela,” she said after being woken up in the middle of the night by a phone call — which was recorded — from Nobel Committee Secretary Christian Berg Harpviken, who informed her she had won.

White House accuses Nobel Committee of putting politics above peace

Earlier, the White House reacted strongly to the announcement of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner, with Communications Director Steven Cheung lashing out at the committee, claiming it prioritized politics over peace.

In a post on platform X, Cheung stated that U.S. President Donald Trump “will continue to broker peace deals, end wars, and save lives.”

Cheung described Trump as “a man with the heart of a humanitarian,” adding:

“There will never be anyone else like him — a man who can move mountains through sheer willpower.”

President Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, and many of his supporters — including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — have publicly backed his candidacy.
