Five men from Camden have been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Greek tourist Antonis Antoniadis, who was fatally attacked in London in July 2024 after resisting a robbery outside the residence where he was temporarily staying.

The 26-year-old, who had been out at a nightclub in central London in the early hours of July 7, 2024, was followed by the attackers. According to the Old Bailey court, the defendants targeted him because he was carrying a Lacoste bag and wearing a Versace watch.

The convicted men — Shian Johnson (26), Sofian Alliche (20), Amin Alliche (18), Joshua McCorquodale (21), and Alfie Hipple (18) — are all from Camden.

  • Johnson must serve at least 28 years before being eligible for parole.
  • The others received sentences ranging from 22 to 26 years.

The Attack

According to the BBC, Antoniadis, who worked at a printing shop in Greece, was in London on vacation with two friends. After their night out, the three took an Uber back to their accommodation in New Cross.

The assailants followed them by car. As the tourists reached the entrance of their residence, four masked men jumped out and attacked Antoniadis, while a fifth man stayed in the vehicle as a getaway driver.

The victim resisted, striking one of the attackers with a bottle of cognac he was still holding from the night out. However, the robbers surrounded him, punched him, and struck him in the chest and leg with machetes.
He was rushed to hospital but died from his injuries two weeks later, on July 21.

Courtroom Reactions

During the sentencing, tensions rose when a man in the courtroom shouted that the “process is corrupt,” causing the defendants to laugh.
Judge Rebecca Trowler KC reprimanded them for their “complete lack of respect” for the court and for the victim.

She acknowledged the “deep grief” of Antoniadis’ family and friends, describing him as a “kind, gentle, and sociable young man, deeply loved”.

Statement from the Victim’s Family

In a statement through the Metropolitan Police, the victim’s parents, Stella and Yiannis Antoniadis, called their son’s death “unjust and inhumane.”

“There is nothing worse than losing your child in such a sudden and horrific way,” they said, adding that they seek justice not only in memory of their son, but also to prevent other parents from experiencing the same nightmare.
