UPDATE:

Stavros Papastavrou

Mr. Papastavrou spoke of a historic opportunity. We are working hard on the necessary infrastructure, he said.

I think we will have significant announcements from the private sector from here. He spoke specifically about announcements from Exxon Mobil, Helleniq Energy and Energean which are active in exploration in the country.

Mr. Papastavrou noted that the goal is “to support peace and stability in the region”, that the presence of oil companies such as Exxon Mobil and Chevron strengthen the Greek positions while he reminded that Libya’s concession program is being adjusted to the median line.

Chris Wright

Greece is the perfect entry point for the natural gas that will replace Russian gas in Europe, it is a heavenly opportunity, let’s take advantage of it together, the US Energy Secretary said.

I want to see Europe full of abundant energy, work with us to achieve it.

This is an opportunity to fully wean off Russian gas, the US has large quantities of LNG and if the infrastructure is created it can be transported to Europe. Every molecule of Russian gas that does not come to Europe stays in the ground and does not end up in Putin’s pockets.

Greece is the perfect entry point with the right infrastructure.

The 6th P-TEC Transatlantic Cooperation Summit which starts today and is completed tomorrow brings top American officials and energy giants to Greece, marking new strategic deals and establishing the country as an entry gateway of American LNG into Europe.

Since yesterday they are in our country and they met with the Prime Minister at the Maximos Mansion — the Interior Secretary and “energy czar” of the Trump administration Doug Burgum, the Energy Secretary Chris Wright, the Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Michael Rigas, and the Deputy Secretary of State responsible for Economic Development, Energy and the Environment Jacob Helberg.

Their presence in the Greek capital, together with leading executives of the companies Cheniere Energy, ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, Venture Global LNG, as well as technology giants such as Amazon and Google, highlights the new geostrategic role of Greece in the energy architecture of Europe.

From the Greek side: PPC, IPTO, DESFA, Gastrade, Energean, HelleniQ Energy.

The speeches will begin with the Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou and his American counterpart Chris Wright.

Mitsotakis: Greece is a natural gateway for American LNG

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis yesterday Wednesday had a meeting at the Maximos Mansion with the U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and the U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright, within the framework of which the strategic character of Greek-American relations and of the energy cooperation between Greece and the USA was confirmed, ahead of the summit.

The Prime Minister referred to the crucial role of Greece in the utilization and development of the Vertical Corridor, as well as of the infrastructures it has developed, such as the LNG terminals of Revythousa and Alexandroupolis, which turn it into a transport hub of liquefied natural gas and into an energy gateway up to Moldova and Ukraine.

The conference is taking place at a critical juncture, as European suppliers are preparing for the period after the end of 2027, when the supply of Europe with Russian natural gas will be completely cut off.

At the same time, the clock is counting down for the implementation of the EU – USA agreement, which provides for energy imports worth 750 billion dollars within three years, redefining the energy balance of the continent.
