The 23-year-old who had been arrested in connection with the explosion at a house in Vorizia — an incident that triggered the bloodshed in the Heraklion village — has been released.

His testimony lasted an hour, but the 23-year-old denies any involvement in the case, according to ERT. He was released because the prosecutor and the examining magistrate could not reach an agreement.

The Council of Misdemeanor Judges will issue a decision in the next few days on whether he will be remanded in custody.

Meanwhile, his mother, two sisters, and other relatives were present today at the Heraklion Courthouse.

“My child has nothing to do with any of the things they’re accusing him of. Ask around. Ask anyone who knows him to tell you what kind of person he is,” his mother said, according to neakriti.gr. “If you had just been passing by, they would have dragged you into this too. The videos the authorities have show that he was at the wedding,” she added, stating that she trusts the justice system. “I expect Justice to do its job properly. We trust it,” she said.
