Personal Number on your mobile – How it appears in the new GOV.GR wallet

The automatic assignment process has been completed – It now covers a total of 9,311,529 citizens

Newsroom November 25 01:00

The feature for displaying the Personal Number (PN) is now available through the GOV.GR Wallet digital document repository, enabling citizens to use it immediately in their transactions with Public Administration.

Access to the Personal Number is granted only upon the user’s request and requires confirmation within the application. The number is retrieved in encrypted form in real time, decrypted and displayed on the device screen. After being shown, the Personal Number is hidden again, while the application blocks any attempt to take a screenshot while the number is visible. Logging out of the digital repository results in the automatic concealment of the number upon the next login.

This new feature is included in Joint Ministerial Decision 25392 EX 2025 (Government Gazette B’ 4705/03.09.2025), which provides for:

  • The activation of access to the PN through the application, following citizen authentication.
  • The necessary interoperability with information systems and public registers.
  • The prescribed technical and organisational measures ensuring the protection of personal data.

The Personal Number is strictly personal and confidential: it is not stored on the user’s device, is not transmitted to third parties, and no authority has access to the decrypted number. The Ministry of Digital Governance and GRNET (E.D.Y.T.E.) are responsible for enforcing security rules, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
