“It’s like watching our children being killed one by one in front of us,” says Konstantinos Theologos about the sheep in his flock that are about to be put down because of sheep pox.
The farmer from Mikro Monastiri, Thessaloniki, has been raising sheep of the historic local Rumluki breed for decades. These are the last purebred Rumluki sheep remaining in the region.

He, his wife, and their children grew up alongside the animals and cared for them every day.
“I protected them from hunger and from the wolves,” the farmer says, unable to hold back his tears.
