They set up a rave party on the steps of a church in Lambrini… with the blessings of the Municipality of Athens – See photos

Athens has unwittingly acquired its first “ecclesiastical rave,” with European funding, free entry, and a church as a backdrop that apparently had not been informed it would be hosting the most electrifying party of the year

One of those nights when Athens manages to outdo itself—and its own imagination—was experienced on Saturday in Lambrini. The much-advertised street party organized by the Municipality of Athens, which in press releases and on social media was piously presented as taking place in Agios Andreas Square, ultimately unfolded—according to dozens of Instagram stories—in a very different setting: quite literally on the steps of the Church of Agios Andreas on Oropou Street.

The DJ booth was set up on the church’s landing, the flashing lights “sanctified” various parts of the building, and the scene resembled a rave with metaphysical overtones rather than an urban cultural event. Those in attendance—many of whom appeared to be in a state of heightened cheerfulness—climbed the steps, danced to electronic music, and made sure to capture the surreal scene for their social media.
