European leaders spoke by phone about Ukraine: ‘Peace is on the horizon for the first time,’ Tusk said

Achieving peace also requires difficult choices on the part of Kiev, especially on the issue of territories, the Polish Prime Minister pointed out

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has expressed the view that the prospect of a peace deal in Ukraine is now within sight, following a telephone conversation with top European leaders. According to him, the peace process could have a positive outcome already in the coming weeks.

“For the first time since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, peace is on the horizon,” Tusk said before a cabinet meeting, in remarks broadcast by a local TV station. The Polish prime minister added that the process could prove successful in the short term, noting that “it is possible that as early as January we will have to make joint decisions on the future of Ukraine.”

At the same time, Tusk stressed that achieving peace also requires difficult choices on the part of Kiev, especially on the issue of territories. “From the Ukrainian point of view, this means a compromise approach to the territorial issue,” he said, suggesting that concessions are an inevitable part of the negotiating process.

The Polish prime minister’s remarks come after a video conference with the participation of top European leaders and the European Union leadership on the settlement of the Ukrainian issue. The discussion was held taking into account the results of the recent meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House.
