Rescue operation underway for eight hikers on Mount Taygetus; four injured

A rescue operation is in progress for a group of hikers stranded in a difficult and inaccessible area near the “Profitis Ilias” summit on Mount Taygetus

Newsroom January 18 06:10

According to the Fire Service, authorities were alerted at around 1:00 p.m. about a group of eight hikers located close to the summit of Profitis Ilias, at an elevation exceeding 2,000 meters.

There is ongoing communication with the hiking group and its leader, who has informed rescue services that four members of the group are injured and require evacuation, according to the Athens–Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA).

An attempt was made to reach the group by helicopter, but this was unsuccessful due to strong winds in the area. Rescue efforts are currently being carried out by ground teams.
