The findings of the ALCO opinion poll, presented on Alpha TV’s main news bulletin, point to a transitional political period, as announcements regarding new political parties by Alexis Tsipras and Maria Karystianou are anticipated. The results suggest that, in practice, New Democracy (ND) remains largely unaffected, with only 9% of its voters expressing sympathy for Maria Karystianou.

New Democracy remains stable in this survey, losing just 0.1 percentage points compared to the December poll and recording 23.5% in voting intention among valid votes. PASOK, by contrast, loses 1.1 points, falling from 11.6% to 10.5%. As with other January polls, ALCO records an increase for Plefsi Eleftherias, which rises from 6.3% to 7.9%, while Elliniki Lysi appears in third place with 9.4%.

SYRIZA records a drop of one percentage point, while Foni Logikis declines by 0.4 points. Of note, undecided voters decreased from 20.9% to 18.4%, while the share of respondents opting for “another party” nearly doubled, from 4.5% to 8.8%.

When asked about voting motivation, 37% of respondents said they would vote to ensure political stability, while 58% said they would vote as an act of protest.

Tsipras and Karystianou parties

Sympathy for a potential “Karystianou party” appears broad-based, drawing support mainly from voters of Elliniki Lysi and Niki on one side, and from the Movement for Democracy and Plefsi Eleftherias on the other. Among SYRIZA voters, 90% express sympathy for a party led by Alexis Tsipras. In PASOK, sympathy for Karystianou’s party stands at 15%, while in the Communist Party (KKE) it reaches 16%.

Notably, while Alexis Tsipras registers no positive ratings among ND voters, sympathy for a Karystianou-led party reaches 9% within ND’s electorate.

ALCO presented measurements for Maria Karystianou for the first time. As for Alexis Tsipras—who announced plans for a new party earlier—positive opinions declined by two percentage points overall, from 19% to 17%. In Nea Aristera, sympathy for a Tsipras-led party reaches 67%, while it stands at 53% among voters of Kasselakis’ party. The figure drops to 26% in Plefsi Eleftherias and reaches 24% among undecided voters. Positive opinions stand at 21% in PASOK and 14% in KKE.

Public sentiment

The poll records a rise in feelings of disappointment (+5 points compared to December) and anger (+3 points), while optimism (-5) and hope (-2) decline. At the same time, only 16% of respondents say that the government’s priorities align with those of society.
