The Minister of Civil Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, described the incident with the death of a prisoner in Domokou prison, telling SKAI that “we have a big problem in prisons as there are many people from the tightening of sentences and in very old infrastructure. The last prison was the one in Drama built 10 years ago. We have secured funds to build 8 new prisons and we are about to start the implementation of the wristband so that those with lenient sentences e.g. for economic crimes, will not serve time in prison.”

In this context, he also said that the Aspropyrgos prisons that will replace those in Korydallos will be ready around 2030, while correctional facilities will also be built in Filiates, Megalopolis, which will be mixed-use, and western Macedonia.

Referring to what happened on Tuesday night and the police intervention at the AUTH, Chrysochoidis said that “we no longer have occupations and disasters at universities and some people don’t want to realize that. After last Saturday’s incidents, the AUTH administration decided to close the university at 10 p.m. Some people went to test it and the rectorate authorities called the police to enforce the decision.”

Asked then about camerason the streets and which ones cut calls, after clarifying that “the ELAS does not send SMS and whenever it needs to communicate in writing it is done by mail,” Michael Chrysochoidis clarified that:

.
“First: At the moment the 300 cameras of the region are being installed. From June they will only witness red lights at intersections

Third: A small number of cameras are piloting a small number of cameras on the OSY buses that are witnessing bus lanes
Fourth: We also have Attiki Odos tickets coming into the Gov.gr file

“All these will be put into the ODYSSEAS coordination so that the calls can be centralized and processed and sent out,” added the Minister of State for Civil Protection.

Finally, asked to comment on the publication by Zoe Konstantopoulou of the text message she sent him about Adonis Georgiades, Chrysochoidis said “I am not the head of the ELAS, I am its political supervisor. The chief of ELAS issued a decision for an investigation conducted by a female brigadier general”
