A striking video capturing the controlled detonation of a naval mine in the waters near Naxos has circulated online. According to Cyclades24.gr, the operation was successfully completed yesterday morning.

The mine was initially discovered on Saturday by a local fishing boat owner, who immediately alerted the authorities. A coordinated operation followed to safely transport the device to the tourist shelter of Naxos port, where it remained under constant surveillance by port police, with access strictly limited.

As announced, strict safety measures were in place starting from 7:00 a.m. on Thursday.

The neutralization was carried out by the Hellenic Navy Mine Disposal Team via a controlled explosion under strict safety protocols. Hellenic Coast Guard personnel were present, along with Fire Department teams and an EKAB ambulance service on standby for emergencies.

The operation concluded successfully without incident, and restrictions around the area were gradually lifted after the detonation.
