On the occasion of the three-year anniversary of the Tempi accident, university and school students unions are currently holding a rally in the centre of Athens.

University and school students are rallying today, Thursday, demanding justice and safe transportation. They are also protesting educational issues of concern to them.

About 2,200 people are participating in the march taking place in Athens. During the rally, one minor has been arrested, who was found in possession of a knife, while six arrests have been made.

The centre of Athens remains closed.

More specifically, students are protesting about the National Baccalaureate and the new high school plan that will result from the National Dialogue, stressing that the plan proposed by the Education Ministry will result in more exams and a greater financial – and not only – burden due to more tutorials. It is worth noting that the students also have the OLME on their side, which has declared a three-hour work stoppage for today.

On their part, university students are protesting against the deletions at universities and the upcoming revision of Article 16 of the Constitution and are demanding support measures and an increase in funding for public universities.

It is worth noting that the turnout of students and pupils is continuous, while in a few minutes a protest march will start towards the Greek parliament.

At the moment, Penepistimiou Street is closed, as well as the metro station in the area.

Finally, it is noted that academic and school students will march again at Syntagma next Saturday to participate in the gathering organized by the association of the relatives of the victims of the Tempi accident, workers’ centers, unions and institutions.
