“King Otto Special Film Screening” almost Sold Out

This is the story of how two contrasting cultures came together to speak the same language and write a new chapter of Greek mythology

Newsroom March 12 01:13

As part of the 2026 GIFFT Spring Showcase in celebration of Hellenic Heritage Month, the Greek International Film Festival Tour of Canada in collaboration with the Greek Community of Toronto and the Hellenic Heritage Foundation proudly presents:

KING OTTO

Sunday, March 15, 2026

6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Polymenakion Cultural Center

30 Thorncliffe Park Drive, Toronto

In the summer of 2004, audiences around the world looked on in disbelief as the Greek National Football Team — a country that had never previously won a single match in a major tournament — defeated the giants of world football to become the unlikeliest of European Champions.

The architect behind this unprecedented triumph was legendary German football coach Otto Rehhagel, known as “King Otto.” After achieving every major success in Germany, he made the bold decision to leave all he knew behind and take on a new challenge in a foreign country with the underachieving Greek National Team.

This is the story of how two contrasting cultures came together to speak the same language — and write a new chapter of Greek mythology.

Experience the emotion, unity, and triumph that united a nation and inspired the world. King Otto is more than a sports documentary — it is a story of belief, resilience, and leadership.
