Kolydas forecasts deteriorating weather from March 19 with heavy rain from the west – Fair conditions over the weekend

Deteriorating weather from next week with rain and low temperatures

Newsroom March 12 03:39

The country will move into a spring-like weather pattern over the next few days, although Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) director Theodoros Kolydas has hinted at a possible return of wintry conditions later this month.

Weather conditions are expected to remain mild and mostly sunny through the middle of next week, before a noticeable change sets in starting next Thursday.

Until at least Tuesday, the weather will retain its generally stable character. The main features of the forecast include:

  • Long periods of sunshine across most of the country

  • Temperatures close to seasonal averages, reaching 16–18°C, and locally up to 19°C in southern regions

  • Localized phenomena: On Friday and Saturday, light afternoon showers may occur in mountainous areas, while Sunday may bring increased cloud cover and isolated showers in the Ionian Sea and mountainous regions

Weather change expected from Thursday

According to the latest forecast by meteorologist Theodoros Kolydas, the current stability is expected to give way to more organized unsettled weather from Thursday, March 19.

In a post on social media, Kolydas noted that although the coming days will remain mild with plenty of sunshine and temperatures close to normal for the season, cooler nighttime temperatures — and even frost in central and northern areas — are still possible during the early morning hours.
