According to protothema.gr, on Monday (March 23), a private individual went to the Organized Crime Division and filed a lawsuit against Giorgos Tsagkarakis, claiming that the gallerist had sold him a forged painting by the renowned artist Dimitris Mytaras.

Specifically, the complainant stated that he consulted a private expert who confirmed that the work he had purchased recently as genuine was entirely fake.

At the same time, many citizens are contacting the Hellenic Police daily, seeking information to verify whether the jewelry they bought from the gallerist’s business is authentic.

One man reportedly claimed that although he paid for some jewelry, he never received it.

Currently, Giorgos Tsagkarakis is appearing before the investigator to provide his defense.

According to reports, the indictment states that out of the 321 artworks found in the gallerist’s possession, only seven were genuine. Regarding the 1745 Gospel that triggered the Greek police investigation, his lawyer claims that it was acquired fully legally.

“This specific document was received with all certifications and relevant confirmations. It was not obtained ‘out of thin air.’ All of this will be examined in the investigation,” he emphasized.
