In the new episode of THEMA UNCUT, businesswoman Angela Evangelia Grypari speaks with Frixos Drakontidis about how members of a powerful Roma family from Thessaly had extended their “tentacles” across the entire country.

A key role in uncovering the Roma gold sovereign scam network was played by the Mykonos-based entrepreneur, as when a close relative of hers fell victim, she did not stop at recognizing the fraud but instead cooperated with the authorities, contributing substantially to the investigation.

In the episode, she describes how members of the same influential Roma family were allegedly involved in a nationwide fraud scheme, targeting citizens by offering gold sovereigns at low prices, using a multi-layered and well-organized system for approaching victims.

Her testimony outlines the structure of the organization, the roles of those involved, and how the network managed to build an extensive fraud operation with nationwide reach.

The investigation by the so-called “Greek FBI,” and in particular the Extortion Unit of the Hellenic Police Organized Crime Division, revealed striking findings including illegal weapons, gold sovereigns, luxury residences, and even a villa with a helipad.

Particularly striking is the fact that, according to the investigation, these assets are attributed to individuals who declared zero income and appeared to be homeless, while their actual lifestyle suggested extreme luxury.
