The Intensifying controls in the fuel market, the Independent Authority for Market Control and Consumer Protection is proceeding to intensify controls in the fuel market, recording significant violations and imposing fines on petrol stations both in the region and in Attica.

According to an announcement by the Authority, in the context of a coordinated operation in Rhodes, two-thirds of the island’s petrol stations were checked, with the findings being particularly worrying since 50% of those checked found exceedances of the maximum plate limit in unleaded and diesel, as well as omissions in the mandatory registration of data in the Price Observatory! For these violations, administrative fines were imposed on 13 service stations, totalling 65,000 euros.

Similarly, in Attica last week, 8 service stations with serious violations of the legislation on the cap were detected, and they were fined a total of 40,000 euros.

The Authority’s checks were not limited to fuel. In Rhodes, a large warehouse with counterfeit goods, mainly clothing and toys, was found, where more than 15,000 pieces were seized and fines of €111,000 were imposed.

The Authority says that the controls will continue with the same intensity, making it clear that there will be no tolerance for any phenomena of obscenity or illegal trafficking of products, at a time when the fuel cap is at the heart of the market.

It is recalled that a second front of controls has already been opened, as more than 100 businesses in the food sector are under the microscope for compliance with the maximum gross profit margin, with checks extended to wholesale meat, fruit, vegetables, and food and beverage companies more broadly.
