The feast of St. George—one of the most important in Orthodoxy—is movable and depends on the date of Easter.

A key factor in determining when it is celebrated is whether April 23 falls during Holy Week or coincides with Easter Sunday.

If April 23 falls within Holy Week or on Easter Sunday, the feast of St. George is transferred to the second day of Easter.

If not—as is the case this year, when Easter fell on April 12—St. George’s Day is celebrated on April 23.
