According to initial reports, four people have lost their lives and at least 20 have been injured in the incident.
The governor of Kahramanmaraş, Mükremin Ünlüer, stated:
“The perpetrator is a second-year middle school student. His father is a former police officer. It is believed that he took his father’s gun. A total of four people were killed—one teacher and three students.”
According to Turkish media, the attacker first fired shots into the air in the schoolyard and then entered the school building, where he continued shooting.
Turkey’s Minister of Education, Yusuf Tekin, is also heading to the scene.
The incident comes just one day after another armed attack at a school in Siverek, Şanlıurfa, increasing concerns about safety in school facilities.
At the same time, Turkey’s Minister of Justice, Akın Gürlek, stated:
“The Public Prosecutor’s Office immediately launched an investigation. Three deputy prosecutors and four public prosecutors have been appointed.”
The Turkish authorities have been alerted after a shooting at a high school located in the province of Kahramanmaras.
The school building was immediately evacuated, while heavy police forces and ambulances were rushed to the scene.
