Prosecution for aiding a criminal against 18-year-old and two young women in Agios Dimitrios murder case; 20-year-old claims she told the perpetrator not to attend the meeting with the victim

Criminal charges for aiding a criminal have been brought against three individuals—an 18-year-old and two 20-year-old women—in connection with the murder of a 27-year-old in Agios Dimitrios. Earlier, the 20-year-old perpetrator, the 18-year-old, and the two 20-year-old women were seen leaving the Attica Police Headquarters (GADA) with their heads bowed.

The 20-year-old, who faces charges of intentional homicide, illegal possession of a weapon, and use of a weapon, is currently serving his military duty in the Navy.

How the murder happened

According to reports, the victim had been in a three-year relationship with one of the 20-year-old women, who had been receiving messages from the perpetrator despite being in that relationship. After some time, she broke up with the victim and began a relationship with the 20-year-old suspect.

The 27-year-old reportedly reacted negatively to this development and continued calling the woman, asking to reconcile.

Under still unclear circumstances, the woman’s current partner—the perpetrator—asked the victim to meet in order to settle their differences.

During the meeting, the two argued and exchanged insults. At that point, the 20-year-old pulled out a large knife and stabbed the victim in the heart.

The perpetrator and his 18-year-old friend, who was present at the scene, then fled, returned home, changed clothes, and took another car to pick up their girlfriends.

According to information, the perpetrator did not initially admit to the killing. When news of the murder began to spread, he confessed. The four then stayed at a hotel room in Ilioupoli.

The perpetrator’s girlfriend—and former partner of the victim—later went to the police and reported what she had learned about the incident in the park in Agios Dimitrios.

Subsequently, the 18-year-old turned himself in at GADA, and finally the perpetrator confessed the crime to the police, revealed where he had hidden the knife, and apologized.

It is noted that the perpetrator had previously been arrested for illegal possession of a weapon, specifically a butterfly knife.

The 20-year-old claims she warned him not to go

The two 20-year-old women shed light on the case and “will soon be acquitted,” according to their lawyer, Nikos Ioannou, who spoke after their appearance before the prosecutor.

According to their defense, the charges for aiding a criminal stem from the fact that the two women were found in a hotel room with the perpetrator and his 18-year-old friend shortly after the murder.

The first woman had been in a relationship both with the victim and later with the perpetrator. The second 20-year-old is the girlfriend of the 18-year-old accomplice.

Their lawyer stated that the women had no knowledge of what had happened. Once they found out, they immediately went to his office for legal assistance.

He emphasized that the perpetrator’s girlfriend had both verbally and in writing urged him not to attend the meeting with the victim. Later, the perpetrator falsely told her that the victim had not shown up. She only learned about the victim’s death from her mother.

Lawyer’s statement

Nikos Ioannou, representing the two women and their families, stated:

“From the very first moment they managed to overcome the shock, the girls came to my office and reported the criminal act, at a time when the investigation was still misdirected toward the victim’s father’s profession.

The reality is one: neither of them knew anything at all when this meeting was arranged.

The first girl, who had relationships with both the victim and the perpetrator, learned about the planned meeting and urged him, both verbally and in writing, ‘do not go under any circumstances.’

When the act took place, she asked whether anything had happened, and he told her that the victim had not shown up. When she later learned the truth, she came to my office in total confusion—we could barely communicate to determine what should be done.

She was not present at the meeting. Shortly afterward, she was told that the victim had not attended.

Until her mother heard about the death of the 26-year-old and, in an attempt not to upset her daughter, told her something else had happened. That is how the truth gradually came out. Even now, she remains in a state of shock.

The prosecution brought charges for aiding a criminal, but this is not accurate. Their innocence will be proven, as the true revelation of the crime came from the first girl and indirectly from the second. We provided the truth to the authorities, ruled out other scenarios, and led the police to solve the case.”
