Greek authorities have seized a major quantity of drugs in Igoumenitsa, arresting the driver of a lorry who was allegedly transporting around 500 kilos of «skunk» cannabis.
According to information from the Hellenic Police, the operation was carried out by the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, with the arrest taking place at the port of Igoumenitsa following an inspection of the truck.
The driver, a Bulgarian national, is alleged to have been transporting the large quantity of drugs carefully concealed inside a shipment of paper products, including napkins and rolls of paper, in an apparent attempt to avoid detection.
According to the same information, the shipment had originated in Valencia, Spain, and followed a route through Italy. Authorities are also examining the possibility that its final destination was Turkey, where the street value of this type of drug is higher.
The arrested man is reportedly not cooperating with authorities and is refusing to provide information about the trafficking network. The investigation is ongoing as police seek to fully uncover the scope of the case.
