A mysterious Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) was spotted on Thursday by fishermen from Vasiliki, Lefkada, near Cape Doukato (Cape of the Lady).

The black speedboat was found inside a cave, with its engine still running, according to thespotlight.gr.

On its upper section it carries special sensors, antennas, and high-tech communication equipment.

It remains unknown whether the vessel drifted to Lefkada from international waters while participating in some kind of exercise or for another purpose.

The fishermen secured it and towed it to the port of Vasiliki, where shortly afterward it was taken into custody by the Hellenic Coast Guard.

It is a USV (Unmanned Surface Vehicle), meaning an unmanned surface craft mainly used for military purposes such as surveillance, intelligence gathering, or even special operations, but also for advanced scientific research.

According to initial reports, local authorities have already documented the incident, and the vessel is currently under supervision. An official statement on the matter is expected from the competent ministry, which has now undertaken the investigation into the origin and purpose of the vessel’s presence in Greek territorial waters.
