Iran should not use the Strait of Hormuz to blackmail the Gulf’s oil monarchies, Qatar’s prime minister said today, as Tehran has sealed off the maritime passage since the outbreak of the war.
“Iran should not use the strait as a weapon to pressure or blackmail Gulf countries,” Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said during a press conference with Hakan Fidan in Doha.
For his part, the head of Turkish diplomacy stated that Turkey supports efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and added that the strait should not be used as a weapon during the war involving Iran.
Hakan Fidan also said that Ankara is participating in Pakistan-led efforts to find a negotiated solution to the war between Iran and the United States.
