Unstable weather conditions are expected across much of Greece today, with rain, scattered thunderstorms, and possible brief hailstorms, mainly in northern and western parts of the country. According to the forecast by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY), the phenomena may become locally intense from midday onward in Epirus, western Central Greece, and Macedonia, while increased cloud cover and local showers will also affect parts of the Aegean. At the same time, weather conditions favor the transport of African dust over the Peloponnese, the Cyclades, and Crete.

Detailed forecast by EMY

General conditions

In western, central, and northern Greece — and from the afternoon in the northern and eastern Aegean — increased cloudiness with local rain is expected. Scattered thunderstorms will occur over the Ionian Sea, and from midday in Epirus, western Central Greece, and Macedonia, where they may temporarily become strong. From the afternoon onward, storms are also expected in the northern and eastern Aegean. During the evening, the phenomena will gradually be limited to the northeastern parts of the country and will stop elsewhere.

Weather conditions favor the transfer of African dust over southern regions, especially the Peloponnese, Cyclades, and Crete.

Winds will blow from southern directions at 3 to 5 Beaufort and temporarily up to 6 Beaufort over the seas. From the afternoon, winds in western areas — and gradually in central and southern regions — will turn west-northwesterly with the same intensity.

Temperatures will rise slightly, reaching:

  • 22–24°C in the Ionian, Cyclades, and northern Aegean
  • 24–26°C in most other areas
  • Locally 27–28°C in eastern mainland Greece and Crete

Macedonia and Thrace

In Thrace, conditions will initially be clear, but cloudiness will develop from midday with local showers or rain. In Macedonia, clouds will quickly increase, bringing rain and scattered thunderstorms from midday onward, possibly strong until the afternoon. Weather will improve during the evening.

Temperature: 16–28°C.
