When the new deputy spokesperson of EL.A.S. insulted Tsipras: “You’re a clown, the most unbelievable lying politician”

Past statements by Nikos Nyfoudis in which he publicly insulted Alexis Tsipras are circulating online, as critics highlight Tsipras’ decision to include him in the new party “EL.A.S.”

One of the figures chosen by Tsipras for his communications team, Nyfoudis had made extremely harsh statements against the former prime minister in the past.

These older remarks are now being widely shared online to criticize Tsipras’ decision to appoint him to the new party, the “Greek Left Alliance” (EL.A.S.).

One day after Tsipras’ gathering in Thiseio, where he officially unveiled the party, Nyfoudis was announced as deputy spokesperson of the Greek Left Alliance (EL.A.S.). According to the biography distributed by Tsipras’ team, he studied Political Science and Economics at the University of Macedonia and completed postgraduate studies at the University of Portsmouth.

It is noted that Nyfoudis previously served as a member of parliament for Thessaloniki with To Potami, founded by Stavros Theodorakis, and later also passed through PASOK and SYRIZA.

In previous years, while acting as a political opponent of Tsipras, he had used highly derogatory language against him in social media posts.

In 2015, he wrote: “Mr. Tsipras, you are a clown, and even bigger clowns are those who voted for you so these idiots could form a government. And yes, this is a political statement made calmly and peacefully.”

For example, in 2016, during controversy surrounding cuts to EKAS pension benefits, he described Tsipras as “the most unbelievable lying politician in all of Greek history.”

In 2017, reacting to statements Tsipras made from Crete, Nyfoudis repeated the same insults: “I’ve seen many clowns, but none like our own. Absolutely none!”

In 2018, he described it as “the peak of disgrace” that “Mr. ‘I won’t pay’ still dares to speak,” once again referring to Alexis Tsipras.
