According to reports, Nikos Tagaras died at the Iatriko Medical Center, where he had been receiving treatment during the last days of his struggle with the illness.
His son, Christos, announced the sad news with a heartfelt message:

“Have a good journey into the LIGHT, my father… You were and always will be my eternal superhero. Now you will finally rest… I love you very much…”
Who was Nikos Tagaras
Nikos Tagaras was elected MP for Corinthia in the May 6, 2012 elections and was re-elected in the June 17, 2012 elections. He was elected again in the same district in the July 7, 2019 elections.
In July 2019, he became chairman of the Special Permanent Committee on Research and Technology of the Hellenic Parliament and vice chairman of the Standing Committee on Production and Trade. He was also a member of the Standing Committee on Public Administration, Public Order and Justice.
He additionally served as chairman of the Greece–Switzerland Parliamentary Friendship Group and was a member of the Greece–Portugal, Greece–Luxembourg, and Greece–Croatia friendship groups.
He had previously served as Alternate Minister for Environment, Energy and Climate Change in 2014.
In the Greek Parliament, he also served as chairman of the Special Permanent Committee on Road Safety.
Earlier in his career, from 2003 to 2010, he served as prefect of Corinthia. He was active in local government for many years, serving as president of the Community of Chiliomodi from 1987 to 1994 and mayor of Tenea from 1999 to 2002.
At the same time, he served for four years as president of the Local Union of Municipalities and Communities of Corinthia.
He also served as chairman and CEO of the Peloponnese Development Company S.A. and vice chairman of the Regional Fund of the Peloponnese Region.
Born in 1956 in Chiliomodi, Corinthia, he was the father of two children. Professionally, he was a civil engineer and a graduate of the National Technical University of Athens.
During his studies, he received multiple scholarships from the State Scholarships Foundation.
After completing his studies, he served in the Hellenic Air Force for his military service and was discharged in 1981 with the rank of Reserve Flying Officer. During his service, he worked as supervising engineer on numerous Air Force construction projects.
