The Holy Spirit long weekend is ideal for short or longer getaways, with high temperatures for the season and sunny weather prompting many people to seek a refreshing break outside Attica.
The result was increased traffic on major roads and at ports, as many Athenians left the capital for the three-day holiday.
But there were also those who did not manage to get away from Attica and instead looked for a few carefree moments at nearby beaches.
Today, Saturday, May 30, the beaches close to Athens were packed with people enjoying the sun and cooling off with a swim in the sea.
Alimos, Edem and Flisvos were among the most popular choices, with the air carrying the unmistakable scent of sunscreen.
