Through multidimensional storytelling and cutting-edge digital technology, the most defining moments of Frida Kahlo’s life, art, and revolutionary thinking unfold before visitors. It is an experience of inspiration, strength, and creativity that captivates audiences of all ages.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

THE APPROACH: As the title Beyond the Icon suggests, the exhibition explores the Mexican artist beyond the established myth and symbolic image associated with her. It does not focus solely on her artistic legacy but delves deeply into her life—a life marked by physical suffering, emotional conflicts, and constant challenges. Through this multi-layered narrative, the exhibition highlights the profound connection between her lived experiences and artistic expression, revealing Frida not only as an iconic artist but also as a person who transformed pain, resistance, and personal history into universal art.

WHAT YOU WILL SEE AT THE EXHIBITION

• THE ALTAR, rich in symbolism and dedicated to Kahlo, whispers stories of another life during Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead), the Mexican tradition in which the living celebrate reunion with the souls of those who have passed away.

• THE INTERACTIVE ARCADE, a digital installation inviting visitors to explore a dreamlike landscape filled with color, movement, and the symbols that define Frida Kahlo’s aesthetic.

• THE MOMENT TIME STOOD STILL, a digital artwork featuring a three-dimensional projection depicting the tragic accident that dramatically changed Frida Kahlo’s life.

• THE DREAM, which invites visitors to the place where Frida’s art was born—her own bed. A poetic artistic installation about the cycle of life, birth and death, health and illness.

• PULQUERIA LA ROSITA, the traditional Mexican tavern where Frida taught painting, encouraging her students to connect with their environment, traditions, and cultural heritage. Visitors can decorate the wall of La Rosita with their own colors.

• CADAVRE EXQUIS (VR), an immersive virtual reality experience allowing visitors to see the world through Frida’s eyes.

• FASHION ICON, featuring Frida’s velvet skirt, embroidered blouse, iconic floral hairstyle, colorful ribbons, and other clothing choices. These are not merely garments but powerful statements of cultural pride and love for life.

• IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE HALL, a spectacular audiovisual narrative presenting the events and experiences that shaped Frida Kahlo’s extraordinary life and transformed her into a global cultural symbol. The presentation covers 500 square meters of projections accompanied by the enchanting music of Rafael Plana and includes archival photographs, historical documents, and depictions of places that marked her personal and historical journey.

• INFORMATION PANELS, presenting Frida Kahlo’s life in timeline format alongside reproductions of many artworks and historical photographs, including The Two Fridas and El Sueño, the latter being one of the highest-priced works ever sold by a female artist, valued at $56 million.

• PHOTO BOOTH, where visitors can “Fridafy” themselves and create their own portrait inspired by Frida’s artistic style.

• WE ARE ALL FRIDA, an artificial intelligence experience that allows visitors to “Become Frida.”

• FLOWER WALL, an artistic installation featuring a photographic image of Frida Kahlo surrounded by an abundant floral arrangement inspired by her connection to nature, Mexican folk traditions, and the symbolic use of flowers in her identity and image. An ideal spot for commemorative photographs.
