The announcement was made during his response to an urgent parliamentary question by Stratos Simopoulos from Thessaloniki A’ constituency, regarding the need to immediately raise the €1,250 protected limit on bank accounts subject to seizure for debts to the state and banks.

“An increase of 28%”

“The protected limit for bank accounts had been set at €1,250 by the government of SYRIZA. That was the threshold under conditions of fiscal pressure,” he said at the beginning of his statement.

“Today, I am in a position to announce the increase of the protected bank account limit to €1,600. That is a 28% increase. It is an act of justice and trust in society,” he added.
