“There are three things you cannot predict: God, sex, and the EU,” declared Edi Rama, referring to Albania’s European path upon his arrival at the EU–Western Balkans summit in Montenegro.

At the same time, the Albanian prime minister emphasized the need to accelerate the European perspective of Western Balkan countries. As he stressed, the European Union should continue to apply the principle of merit in the enlargement process, but at the same time move forward without delays toward a model of gradual integration of candidate countries.

He noted that this position has long been expressed by the Albanian side and now appears to be gaining greater acceptance within European institutions, although he does not consider the steps taken so far to be sufficient.

“If you want to send a strong message to the world, now is the moment. We are all sitting around the same table and we should all have a special status. It is not too late, but it is not enough,” he said to journalists before the start of the summit.

Rama also argued that arguments about the risks of enlargement are now outdated, noting that many European leaders have changed over the years while he himself continues to participate in discussions on Albania’s accession.

In addition, referring to when Albania will join the EU, he said: “God, sex, and the European Union cannot be predicted.”

“There is no reason for concern, because there is no plan,” he said regarding the investment by Trump’s son-in-law.

“There is no reason for concern, because there is no plan,” he also stated when asked about protests against the plan to build a tourism complex by the Trump family.

He reassured that “there is no plan yet” and therefore “no reason for concern,” adding that “the best experts” in the world have been mobilized and that the project aims to create “something unique.”

“There is no approved plan yet. First we need to have a plan, then we look at it, then we discuss it—but we cannot discuss something that does not exist,” said the Albanian prime minister, urging international media to “be more careful.”
