Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis met today with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on the sidelines of the SEECP Summit in Sofia.
The two ministers discussed the course of transatlantic relations ahead of the July summit in Ankara, as well as regional developments, with particular emphasis on the situation in the broader Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Regarding the pending Turkish legislative initiative, the Foreign Minister stressed that unilateral actions do not produce legal effects and do not contribute to maintaining a climate of calm. He reiterated that the sole issue between Greece and Turkey remains the delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the continental shelf.
The ministers also discussed developments concerning the Cyprus issue, including the upcoming meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Cyprus and the planned informal enlarged meeting on the Cyprus issue.
Finally, they reviewed bilateral relations and agreed to keep channels of communication open.
