A 4.6-magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Ionian Sea early on Monday morning, in the sea area south-west of Zakynthos.
According to the automatic reading issued by the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, the epicentre was located 53 kilometres west of the Strofades islands. The focal depth was calculated at 5 kilometres.
The Strofades are a small island group south of Zakynthos, in a part of the Ionian Sea where seismic activity is frequently recorded. No reports of damage or injuries had been announced in the initial information.
