Rapper Cardi B has sparked backlash on TikTok after joking that she is “broke” while showing followers a collection of expensive Chanel bags and accessories.

The 33-year-old rapper’s video has attracted more than 10 million views. In it, she presents several luxury items, including a mini Chanel 25 bag in lambskin with gold-tone metal hardware, valued at $8,400, which she described as one of the hardest Chanel bags to get.

She then showed a green Chanel 25 Hobo bag with gold-tone details, reportedly priced at $10,500 on resale sites, saying she liked the colour because it worked with blue and red and was fun to wear during the day.

The rapper also displayed a pair of striking red-and-black boots, joking that she needed “something crazy” to wear when she “saved New York”. She went on to show a blue Superman-inspired vanity case, priced at $3,575, before revealing the most expensive item in the video: a burgundy flap bag with a giraffe-shaped clasp, reportedly listed for as much as $29,500 on resale websites.

Before ending the video, Cardi B, whose fortune has been estimated at $100 million, joked: “Don’t get it twisted just because you see these things. I don’t have money. This is all an illusion.”

The comment was not well received by many viewers, who criticised the display of wealth at a time when many people are struggling with bills and debt. One user wrote: “Cardi please girl, not right now when I’m struggling to pay my bills.” Another commented: “Sis, this isn’t for us.” Others joked that she should let fans know when she shops at Walmart, send them her old belongings, or help pay off student loans. One commenter asked: “If Cardi is broke, then what am I?”
