A fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon (June 24) in an abandoned hotel located next to residential buildings in Loutraki.
A firefighting force consisting of 28 firefighters, 11 vehicles, and a specialized ladder truck is working to extinguish the blaze. Volunteers and municipal water tankers are also assisting in the operation. Videos from the scene show thick black smoke rising into the sky.
According to local media, the building has sustained extensive material damage, while some residents from adjacent apartment blocks have been evacuated as a precaution.
According to the Fire Service, there have so far been no reports of people trapped inside the building.
Speaking to protothema.gr, the Mayor of Loutraki, Georgios Gkionis, said:
“It is a major fire. Firefighters have now entered the building because there is information that two children may be inside. This has not yet been confirmed, and searches are underway while firefighting operations continue.”
He added:
“The hotel has been closed for the last seven or eight years. Only some work had recently been carried out there. The incident is still fully ongoing. We hope everything turns out well.”
