John Bolton, former national security adviser to Donald Trump, pleaded guilty to mishandling classified documents, which he had in his possession without authorization.

During a hearing on Friday in federal court in Maryland, when asked by the judge if he was guilty, Bolton replied: “I am, Your Honor, and I’m sorry for that.”

Bolton’s plea agreement, in which he admits that he shared sensitive national security information with his wife and daughter, is equivalent to a felony charge that could result in a prison sentence, according to CNN.

The plea agreement reached by prosecutors and Bolton’s defense attorneys calls for a prison sentence not to exceed five years (60 months), as well as a fine of $2.25 million. The first half of this fine will be paid within five days of the sentencing, according to prosecutors.
