According to the Attica Traffic Police Directorate, the main causes of these traffic accidents were reckless and inattentive driving, violation of traffic signs, and pedestrians breaking traffic rules, while the failure of motorcycle drivers and passengers to wear protective helmets exacerbated the severity of their injuries in many cases.

At the same time, during the same period, as part of the targeted initiatives implemented by the Attica Traffic Police Directorate for traffic enforcement and the improvement of road safety, 36,803 violations were issued, of which 269 were misdemeanors.

For example, the following were issued:

* 1,103 violations for driving under the influence of alcohol, of which 58 were classified as misdemeanors,

* 1,038 speeding violations,

* 286 red-light violations,

* 773 violations for using a cell phone,

* 2,029 violations for not wearing a seat belt,

* 2,797 violations for not wearing a helmet, and,

* 61 violations for dangerous maneuvers.
