The arrest of two foreign nationals, Turkish citizens aged 25 and 21, was carried out by port authorities as part of the investigation into the grounding of a sailing vessel in Kos, on which 54 illegal immigrants had been found during the night hours of July 1.
According to the latest update by the Hellenic Coast Guard, the two arrested individuals were identified as the smugglers of the other passengers on board, and a case file has been formed against them for a series of serious offenses.
Specifically, they are charged with illegal entry into the country, facilitation of illegal entry of foreigners, causing a shipwreck, forming a criminal organization, and endangering human lives, in accordance with applicable legislation.
The Coast Guard continues the preliminary investigation to fully clarify the case, while the two arrested individuals are expected to be brought before the competent prosecuting authority.
