The first of 25 new hybrid trains Greece is set to receive has arrived in Thessaloniki, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced, describing it as the first tangible result of the Greece-Italy agreement on new investment in the Greek railway system.
In a post on Instagram, the prime minister said the train belongs to a new generation of modern hybrid units that will reinforce services on the main Athens-Thessaloniki route.
A total of 25 new trains are expected to be introduced gradually into the Greek railway network, as part of the agreement between Greece and Italy, with the aim of upgrading rail transport and strengthening infrastructure.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s post
“The first of the 25 new trains we will receive has already arrived in Thessaloniki. These are modern, next-generation hybrid trains that will strengthen services on the main Athens-Thessaloniki route. This is the first tangible result of the Greece-Italy agreement on major new investments in the Greek railway system.
“The new trains are equipped with the most advanced traffic management systems, with the aim of further improving travel safety. Our goal is simple: a railway system that citizens can trust again.
“And we continue to work towards that goal.”
