Independent MP for Chania Pavlos Polakis openly called for a change in SYRIZA’s leadership during an interview with Naftemporiki TV.

Describing the situation within the party as “unprecedented,” Polakis said that party president Socrates Famellos is characterized by “personal inadequacy and subservience.” Referring to the party’s internal leadership election, he added, “I handed him his election because I didn’t run in the second round.”

“The leadership of SYRIZA must change, and very soon,” Polakis declared, outlining what he sees as the roadmap for change.

According to him, the party should “reverse the decision of the Central Committee, Famellos should resign, and a new parliamentary group leader should be elected.”

Referring to the 2023 elections, the Chania MP argued, “The problem in 2023 was that Tsipras kept saying we would go with PASOK, while Androulakis was rejecting him, yet he kept insisting we would go with PASOK.”

Addressing Famellos directly, Polakis said: “If you support it (the ELAS party), resign and go there—let’s see if they’ll take you.”
