Temperatures set to reach 36 – 38 degrees Celsius this weekend in Greece

EMY forecasts a hot, sunny weekend across Greece, with mainland highs of 35 degrees Celsius, locally 36 in Central Macedonia and Thessaly. Islands see 32 to 34 degrees Celsius. Sunday climbs further, up to 38 degrees Celsius locally.

Rising temperatures and generally clear skies will prevail across the country on Saturday, according to EMY. Mainland temperatures will reach up to 35 degrees Celsius, climbing locally to 36 degrees Celsius in Central Macedonia and Thessaly, while island temperatures will range between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius.

Local cloud cover is expected to build during midday and afternoon hours over the mountainous regions of western and southern Greece, bringing occasional rain or showers. In the Aegean, northerly winds of up to 6 Beaufort will blow.

Macedonia and Thrace

Conditions will be generally clear, with occasional afternoon cloud cover in western Macedonia. Winds will be variable at 3 to 4 Beaufort, with sea breezes of the same intensity developing along the coast from noon. Temperatures will range from 18 to 34 degrees Celsius, reaching 35 to 36 degrees Celsius locally in Central Macedonia.

Ionian Sea, Epirus, western Greece and the western Peloponnese

The weather will be generally clear, with temporary cloud cover over the mainland during midday and afternoon hours, and local rain or showers in the mountains. Winds will be variable at 3 to 4 Beaufort, turning temporarily westerly around midday and in the afternoon. Temperatures will range from 21 to 35 degrees Celsius.

Thessaly, eastern Central Greece, Euboea and the eastern Peloponnese

Conditions will be generally clear, with temporary midday and afternoon cloud cover in Central Greece and the Peloponnese, alongside localised mountain rain or showers. Winds will be variable at 3 to 4 Beaufort, turning northerly at the same intensity in eastern areas. Temperatures will reach 35 degrees Celsius, and locally 36 degrees Celsius in Thessaly.

Cyclades and Crete

The weather will be generally clear, with a few temporary clouds over Crete’s mountains at midday and in the afternoon. Winds will blow from the north at 3 to 5 Beaufort, reaching 6 Beaufort in the east. Temperatures will range from 22 to 31 degrees Celsius, climbing locally to 33 degrees Celsius in Crete.

Eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese

Conditions will remain clear, with northerly winds of 4 to 6 Beaufort. Temperatures will range from 23 to 33 degrees Celsius, reaching up to 34 degrees Celsius locally in southern areas.

Attica

The weather in Attica will be clear, with variable winds of 3 to 4 Beaufort. Temperatures will range from 23 to 34 or 35 degrees Celsius.

Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki will see mostly sunny conditions, with variable winds of 3 to 4 Beaufort and a sea breeze developing along the coast from noon. Temperatures will range from 20 to 34 degrees Celsius.

Sunday’s forecast

Sunday will also be generally clear, though clouds will build after noon in Macedonia, Thrace and the mountainous regions of the rest of the mainland, bringing temporary rain or showers.

Winds will blow from the north-northwest at 2 to 4 Beaufort, strengthening to 5 to 6 Beaufort in the Aegean. Temperatures will rise slightly further, reaching 36 to 37 degrees Celsius on the mainland and locally up to 38 degrees Celsius, while island temperatures will range from 33 to 35 degrees Celsius.
