New Democracy continues to maintain a double-digit lead over its political opponents, according to a new poll conducted by Interview for POLITIC. The survey places ELAS in second place ahead of PASOK, while also highlighting widespread public distrust in institutions and the potential electoral appeal of a possible new political movement led by former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.

According to voting intentions, New Democracy receives 26.8%, retaining an 11-percentage-point advantage over ELAS, which stands at 15.8% and has secured second place in the poll.

PASOK ranks third with 10.1%, followed by Hellenic Solution at 8.9%, reducing the gap between the two parties to just 1.2 percentage points.

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) follows with 5.9%, while “Elpida,” led by Maria Karystianou, records 5.3%.

Near the 3% parliamentary threshold are MERA25 with 3.1%, Voice of Reason with 3.0%, and Freedom Course with 2.9%.

The remaining parties register lower levels of support: Democrats 2.4%, SYRIZA 1.0%, New Left 0.5%, and Niki 0.3%.

Undecided voters account for 9%, while another 5% say they would choose a different party. Overall, 14% of respondents did not select any of the parties included in the survey.

Potential Support for a Samaras-Led Party

The poll also examines the possible impact of a new party led by Antonis Samaras. Twelve percent of respondents say they would be “very” or “somewhat” likely to vote for such a party. When those who answered “a little likely” are included, the potential support base rises to 21%.

However, 78% say they would be unlikely to vote for a party led by Samaras.

Rena Dourou’s Election to SYRIZA Parliamentary Leadership

A few days after Rena Dourou’s election as head of the SYRIZA Parliamentary Group, the survey indicates limited expectations regarding her ability to strengthen the party’s position.

Only 7% of all respondents—and 11% of those who voted for SYRIZA in the 2023 elections—believe she can bring renewed momentum to the party.

For Pavlos Polakis, the corresponding figures are higher, at 23% among the general public and 30% among SYRIZA voters.

The most common response is “none,” selected by 60% of all respondents and 52% of SYRIZA voters.

Public Trust in Institutions

The survey also highlights low levels of public confidence in political institutions.

Only 8% of respondents say they trust political parties, while 17% express trust in Parliament and 23% in the judiciary. The military remains the notable exception, with 62% of respondents expressing a positive view.

At the same time, 44% believe that small and medium-sized business owners and self-employed professionals are the social group most negatively affected by government policies. This compares with 26% who identify salaried workers and 21% who identify retirees as the most disadvantaged groups.

Preferred Prime Minister

Regarding suitability for governing, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis leads with 29.9%.

Former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and the response “none” are tied for second place, each receiving 16.6%.
