NATO’s Air Command confirmed on Friday that a drone was shot down by allied fighter jets operating under NATO command and control after entering Romanian airspace.

Earlier in the day, Romanian authorities reported that an F-16 fighter jet had intercepted and destroyed a drone that had violated the country’s airspace.

NATO said an investigation into the incident is currently underway and added that the Alliance is working closely with Romanian authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the event.
