The agreement between the Ministry of Health and the Airbnb platform, under which the company will sponsor accommodation on Greek islands for doctors and nurses, was announced on Monday by Adonis Georgiadis.
Speaking to OPEN TV, Mr Georgiadis said that “these homes will be available from the beginning of August”, referring to further announcements expected in the coming days.
According to reports, the programme will begin as a pilot scheme on August 1 in five islands, covering the housing needs of all healthcare professionals — including doctors, nurses and EKAB ambulance crews — who are transferred to healthcare facilities.
The same sources said that the programme will initially be implemented in Rhodes, Paros, Tinos, Ios and Santorini, while full coverage is expected from next summer.
