A very high risk of wildfires (risk category 4) is forecast for several regions of Greece on Friday, July 31, 2026, according to the Fire Danger Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.

The areas under category 4 alert include:

• Attica Region, including the island of Kythera
• Peloponnese Region: Corinthia, Argolis, Arcadia and Laconia
• Central Greece Region: Boeotia, Phocis, Phthiotis and Evia, including Skyros
• North Aegean Region
• South Aegean Region: Cyclades regional unit
• Crete Region
• Western Greece Region
• Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region: Evros regional unit, including Samothrace

Authorities have informed all relevant state services, regional authorities and municipalities in the affected areas, placing them on heightened civil protection readiness in order to respond immediately to any potential wildfire incidents.

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection is urging citizens to exercise particular caution and avoid outdoor activities that could accidentally trigger fires, including:

• burning dry grass, branches or garden waste
• using machinery that can create sparks, such as saws or welding equipment
• lighting outdoor barbecues
• smoking near beehives
• discarding lit cigarettes
• any other activity that could create ignition sources

Authorities also reminded citizens that agricultural burning is prohibited during the fire prevention period.

Anyone who notices a wildfire is urged to immediately contact the Fire Service by calling 199.
