A section of Thessaloniki’s Inner Ring Road will be closed in both directions for six hours on Saturday night to allow work on the city’s Flyover project, according to the Thessaloniki Traffic Police.

The traffic restrictions will be in effect from 11:00 p.m. on Saturday until 5:00 a.m. on Sunday at Interchange K11 (Pylaia–Panorama).

Westbound Closure

Traffic will be completely suspended on the westbound carriageway of the Inner Ring Road at the first exit to Prasakaki Street near K11.

Vehicles will be diverted via Prasakaki Street, John Kennedy Street, and Elaionon Street, before rejoining the westbound Ring Road at the K11 interchange.

Eastbound Closure

The eastbound carriageway will also be fully closed at the exit ramp to Foka Street at K11.

Drivers will be diverted via Foka Street and may continue through the city center using alternative routes.

Restrictions for Heavy Trucks

Authorities also announced that trucks weighing more than 3.5 tonnes will not be permitted to use the Inner Ring Road between Interchange K16 (Central Market/Lachanagora) and Interchange K13 (Agios Pavlos Hospital) from 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, until 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 2.

Advice for Drivers

Traffic police are urging motorists to:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel through the affected sections.
  • Follow all temporary traffic signs and diversion routes.
  • Drive with extra caution to reduce the risk of accidents and traffic congestion.

The overnight closures are part of ongoing construction work for Thessaloniki’s Flyover project, one of the city’s largest road infrastructure upgrades.
