More than 37,500 of the roughly 60,000 migrants who entered Ceuta, Spain’s enclave on the North African coast, in recent days have already returned to Morocco, the Spanish interior ministry announced today.

“Departures from Ceuta to Morocco as of 15:30 on 31 July: more than 37,500,” the ministry said in a briefing to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

Meanwhile, the European Commission in Brussels said today that it had observed no flow of migrants between Ceuta and mainland Europe.

“There are no movements toward mainland Europe today,” a senior EU official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
