Ariana Grande is ready to focus on herself, with a strong support system standing by her side.

As confirmed by PEOPLE, the 33-year-old singer plans to step away from the public spotlight after wrapping up her Eternal Sunshine Tour on September 1. The decision comes at a time when fans have increasingly voiced concerns about her health.

Because of her planned break, Grande will no longer appear in the West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George, which was scheduled to premiere in London next summer. A source close to the singer described the situation as “deeply personal.”

Another person who has known Grande for years said: “Stepping away from Sunday in the Park is a sign that she’s ready to leave the spotlight for a while and focus on herself.” The source added, “She has people around her who fully support her decision to slow down.”

Grande addressed her decision during her concert in Chicago on August 3, telling the packed audience that it was not “a reactive or impulsive decision,” but rather a plan she had been “quietly putting together for a long time.”

Concerns about the singer’s health have intensified in recent years, first during the promotional tour for Wicked: For Good in 2025 and again after she launched the Eternal Sunshine Tour in Auckland on June 6.

The discussion grew even louder following the release of the music video for her new song “Petal” a few days ago. In the video, Grande attends a series of auditions where casting directors harshly criticize her appearance, telling her she “could stand to lose a few pounds” and “should consider cosmetic surgery,” before she ultimately gets her revenge.

“Ariana has always been in control. It’s her career, and she sets the rules. She has the final say on every creative decision and every aspect of her schedule,” another source told PEOPLE. “She’s spoken openly about going to therapy in the past, which helped her through difficult periods. At the same time, she’s full of joy, energy, and professionalism,” the source added.

During her four-minute speech on stage on August 3, the actress and singer told fans that it simply wasn’t true that “negativity ruins things” for her, referring to the release of her eighth studio album, Petal, on July 31.

“No matter how much noise there is out there, nothing can distort my reality or be more or less true to me than the love we share,” she said. She also described the Eternal Sunshine Tour as “one of the most healing, beautiful, right, and special experiences” of her life.

The tour—her first since the Sweetener World Tour in 2019—is scheduled to conclude in London on September 1.

“She’s looking forward to finishing the tour and closing this chapter in the best possible way—healthy and happy. After that, she’ll take a well-deserved break from public work and appearances, which have subjected her to constant public scrutiny. This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has enjoyed every minute of it,” the statement said.

On the same day, another source close to Grande told PEOPLE that the singer performs “an extremely physically demanding show involving intense athletic activity.”

“She is performing in a healthy and successful way while maintaining an exceptionally high standard every single night,” the source added.
