The Fire Service was alerted shortly after midday on Wednesday to a fire that broke out in an area of low vegetation in Koropi’s Industrial Area, with the 112 emergency alert system also sending a message urging residents in the nearby Driggia area to be on standby.
Fifty-two firefighters are at the scene, supported by three ground crews from the Fire Service’s 1st Special Forest Operations Unit and 14 fire engines.
Two aircraft and four helicopters are also taking part in the operation, one of which is being used to coordinate the aerial firefighting effort.
