A woman and another passenger seized the wheel of the coach as the driver lost control, with the female passenger notably never having driven a bus before in her life.

A moment of composure and heroism averted a potential tragedy on a motorway in Sweden, after two bus passengers helped save around 50 people when the driver suddenly lost consciousness while the vehicle was travelling along the motorway.

According to local media reports, passenger Maria Helte reacted instantly and grabbed the bus’s steering wheel, attempting to keep the vehicle under control and hold it on course.

At the same time, another passenger rushed to help, moving into the driver’s seat and immediately applying the brake, helping bring the bus to a safe stop. Thanks to their coordinated effort, the vehicle stopped without any accident occurring. Although the incident took place on 19 August, footage of it was only made public today.

Heroic intervention in a matter of seconds

The incident occurred while the bus was carrying around 50 passengers. The driver’s loss of consciousness could have led to a serious road accident, but the quick reaction of the two passengers proved decisive.

Helte, who had no previous experience driving a bus, did not hesitate to intervene at a critical moment, keeping the vehicle under control until it could be brought safely to a stop.
